Clematis viticella, also known as Italian clematis, is a vigorous and hardy climbing clematis. Its flowers are usually medium-sized, in various shades of violet, blue, pink, or red, and appear from July to September. Cultivars of this type of clematis are highly valued for their ability to grow quickly and for their abundance of flowers, making them ideal for covering fences, pergolas, or other garden structures. It is relatively easy to care for, preferring exposure to sun or partial shade and well-drained soil.
Varieties of Clematis viticella are known for very good resistance both to weather conditions and to human actions/gardener mistakes. They require minimal intervention - a light pruning after the flowering period can provide a boost for a much faster reflowering, usually in the same season.
