Tangutica), known for its yellow bell-shaped flowers and decorative seed heads that prolong its visual interest until late autumn. This climbing plant brings an exotic and bright touch to the garden, and is appreciated for its distinctive appearance.

Flower appearance

  • Shape : The flowers are simple, with four thin, elongated tepals that curve slightly outward, forming a graceful bell, typical of oriental clematis species.
  • Color : The color is a bright golden yellow, sometimes with lighter shades towards the tips, giving a warm and sunny effect. The interior of the flower reveals dark purple stamens, which contrast beautifully with the tepals.
  • Size : The flowers are 3-5 cm in diameter, smaller than those of large-flowered clematis, but numerous and evenly distributed on the plant.
  • Flowering period : It blooms from July to September, sometimes even until October, providing a splash of color in the second half of summer and early autumn.
  • Seed heads : After flowering, silvery, fluffy seed heads appear that remain decorative until late in the season, adding texture and interest.

Growth characteristics

  • Height : Grows up to 3-5 meters, being a vigorous climbing plant, capable of covering medium to large structures.
  • Foliage : The leaves are medium green, finely divided and slightly serrated, typical of the Clematis orientalis species, giving an airy appearance.
  • Vigor : It is robust and fast growing, inheriting the natural resistance of oriental species.

Growing conditions

  • Exposure : Prefers full sun or partial shade, with roots protected from direct light (by mulching or low plants at the base).
  • Soil : Adapts to a wide range of soils, but thrives in well-drained, fertile soils with a neutral or slightly acidic pH.
  • Pruning : It belongs to pruning group 3 , which means it blooms on the new growth of the year. It is recommended to prune it drastically in spring (February-March), 20-30 cm above the ground, to stimulate abundant flowering.

Care and resistance

  • Resistance : It is very resistant to cold (down to -25°C) and disease, being a tough plant, suitable for various climates.
  • Watering : Requires moderate watering, but is drought tolerant once established.
  • Fertilization : A balanced fertilizer applied in spring helps support growth and flowering.
