Clematis - Clematis 'Romantika' (Late Large-flowered Group)
Clematis 'Romantika' - The flowers of Clematis 'Romantika' change color as they mature, starting almost black upon opening and maturing into a deep purple. In the center, a crown of shining anthers, intense yellow to cream, makes them stand out beautifully, whether they grow on an obelisk, on a trellis or behind a garden border.
'Romantika' is one of the many gorgeous clematis bred by Uno Kivistik from Estonia. Raised in 1983 as a seedling, it was not available to many gardeners until the 'Iron Curtain' was lifted in 1989 and trade with Eastern European countries became easier. 'Romantika' is classified as a Jackmanii clematis and exhibits many of their characteristics, such as strong and fast growth, very dark flower color and a long flowering season.
Flower size: approx. 10 cm
Classification : Late Large-flowered Group
Culture recommendations :
This type of clematis prefers a good quality soil with high levels of nutrients, moist but well drained. It is recommended that when planting, you improve the soil with manure or compost, as much as possible. In the case of cultivation in drier soils, which tend to dry out quickly, cover the base with a layer of shredded tree bark (or another type of mulch) to maintain soil moisture.
Clematis generally prefer a growing space with good exposure to the sun.
It is not necessary to remove the wilted flowers of these clematis, but if they seem to have finished blooming earlier than expected, it does not hurt to give them a light pruning to encourage new growth and a secondary bloom in late fall.
In the cold season, the plants appear in the form of sticks without leaves that seem dry - this aspect is perfectly normal and the plants are as viable as possible.
