Culture recommendations for Clematis montana and their hybrids.
Clematis montana and their hybrids are ideal plants to surround the outline of buildings or to cover fences and walls. You have to take into account the fact that they are vigorous plants. They will also look fabulous if left to climb large mature trees, as they would in the wild.
Clematis montana prefers well-drained soils - the roots can degrade if planted in swampy areas. If necessary, pruning should be done immediately after flowering has finished. Avoid excessive watering in their first year of autumn and winter in the ground or, possibly, plant them in the spring.
In the cold season, the plants are sold shortened and without leaves.
