Clematite cu flori XL - Clematis 'John Paul II' (Late Large-flowered Group)
Clematis 'John Paul II' - Named after the Pope of Polish origin, this clematis features pearly white-pink flowers with a deeper pink stripe that fades as the flowers mature. Severe pruning will delay blooming until autumn, when it will offer a magnificent display.
Classification: Late Large-flowered Group
Growing recommendations:
This type of clematis prefers good quality soil, rich in nutrients, moist but well-drained. It is recommended to improve the soil at planting time with manure or compost, as much as possible. In the case of cultivation in drier soils that tend to dry out quickly, cover the base with a layer of shredded bark (or another type of mulch) to retain soil moisture.
Clematis generally prefer a growing space with good sun exposure.
It is not necessary to remove the withered flowers of these clematis, but if they seem to have finished blooming earlier than expected, a light pruning can encourage new growth and a second flowering late in autumn.
In the cold season, the plants appear as leafless sticks that seem dry – this is perfectly normal and the plants are fully viable.
Note: The flowers are initially white – they usually color during the warm season when the plants receive sunlight. The size of the flowers is influenced by the maturity of the plant.
