Winter clematis, evergreen - Clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles' (scented flowers)
Clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles' is a perennial climbing plant, valued for its distinctive flowers, which appear especially in the colder months of the year.
This variety has a vigorous growth, reaching heights of up to 3-4 meters. The leaves are semi-perennial, that is, some of them remain on the plant during the winter, depending on the climatic conditions. In the case of extreme winters, it is possible for the plant to lose all its leaves.
Flowering generally begins in November or December and can continue until February or March. The flowers are bell-shaped and singly arranged. They have a cream-pale background, over which dark purple or dark brown spots are scattered, similar to some freckles - hence the name 'Freckles'. The flowers are fragrant .
To encourage a proper/abundant winter flowering, as well as to preserve the foliage, it is recommended to place the plant in spaces protected from blizzards/strong air currents.
Full botanical name: Clematis cirrhosa var. purpurascens 'Freckles'
Attention - under certain conditions, Clematis cirrhosa can go dormant during the warm season - in which case it is necessary to reduce watering. Dormancy may also involve some damage to the foliage.
