Clematite - Clematis 'Apollonia' (Late Large-flowered Group)
Clematis 'Apollonia'
Classification: Late Large-flowered Group
Cultivation recommendations:
This type of clematis prefers good quality soil, rich in nutrients, moist but well drained. It is recommended to improve the soil with manure or compost at planting, as much as possible. In the case of growing in drier soils that tend to dry out quickly, cover the base with a layer of shredded bark (or another type of mulch) to retain soil moisture.
Clematis generally prefer a growing space with good sun exposure.
It is not necessary to remove the faded flowers of these clematis, but if they seem to have finished blooming earlier than expected, a light pruning can help encourage new growth and a second flowering late in autumn.
In the cold season, the plants appear as leafless sticks that look dry – this is perfectly normal and the plants are fully alive.
