Catasetum expansum - a large, spectacular epiphytic botanical species that grows in variable temperature conditions, from warm to cool, native to northeastern Ecuador, in dry forests at altitudes from 20 to 1500 meters. This plant has spindle-shaped pseudobulbs bearing several lanceolate, folded, and deciduous leaves. It can bloom from May to December on a basal curved inflorescence, 30 cm long, with 6+ flowers, which appears on a newly formed pseudobulb and can bear either male or female flowers. The flowers have a distinct fragrance, with different aromas during the day and night.
