Bonsai Metasequoia (forest)
Metasequoia, also known as the Chinese red sequoia, is a highly valued species for bonsai creation due to its fine leaves and relatively fast growth.
Care
Light and Placement
The Metasequoia bonsai prefers a bright location with direct sunlight for at least a few hours a day. It is important to protect it from strong winds and late spring frost, which can damage new growth.
Watering
Watering should be regular and adjusted according to the season and environmental conditions. The soil should not dry out completely, but it should not be waterlogged either. Ensuring good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Fertilizing
Fertilizing is best done during active growth periods, in spring and summer, using a balanced bonsai fertilizer. During the dormant period, fertilization should be reduced or stopped altogether.
Pruning and Shaping
Pruning is done to control growth and shape the tree. This involves cutting new shoots back to two or three leaves, depending on the desired shape. Wiring can also be applied carefully to avoid damaging the bark or branches.
Repotting
Repotting is done every two to three years, in spring before the growth period begins. This is an opportunity to trim roots that have grown too much and replace the soil to ensure a fresh and nutritious environment.
By following these basic practices, the Metasequoia bonsai can become a spectacular centerpiece in any bonsai lover’s collection, offering beauty and satisfaction throughout the year.
As an outdoor-grown bonsai during the warm season, the foliage may sometimes show small imperfections caused by temperature variations, sun exposure, or environmental factors (wind, rain, insects). These aspects are normal for a plant grown outdoors and do not affect the bonsai’s viability. The leaves naturally regenerate throughout the growth cycle.
Plants in stock have 3-5 stems.
