Aronia x prunifolia 'Nero'

Aronia prunifolia 'Nero' - Aronia x prunifolia is a natural hybrid between Aronia arbutifolia and Aronia melanocarpa. Aronia 'Nero' is a selected variety (cultivar obtained in Slovakia) for its superior fruit taste (much softer), fruit size (about twice as large as currants), extremely abundant yield, as well as the large size of the bush (approx. 2 m).

Aronia prunifolia 'Nero' can be considered a plant with a dual role - both decorative in garden arrangements and valuable due to its fruits rich in vitamins and antioxidants. The plant grows as a strongly branched shrub, with dark green leaves that turn red-orange towards winter.

Flowering takes place in May, the flowers are strongly fragrant, and the fruits can be harvested in August-September. Unpicked fruits do not fall and keep well for a long time.

A mature specimen produces a significant amount of fruit, which can be eaten fresh or used for jams, preserves, drinks, etc. However, it should be noted that not everyone tolerates the acidic-sour taste of the fruits - for this reason, processing them is often preferred.

Self-fertile variety. Does not require special soil. Does not require maintenance - pruning is only for aesthetic purposes. It is very resistant to diseases and pests.

It withstands garden conditions even at extreme temperatures down to -37°C.
