Full description and specifications

Anthurium queremalense is a rare species of the Araceae family, discovered in 1986 by renowned botanist Dr. Tom Croat in the cloud forests of Queremal, Colombia. This remarkable species is distinguished by its large, elongated, velvety leaves, which, at maturity, can exceed 1.2 meters (4ft) in length , giving a lush and imposing appearance.

Native to mountainous regions, Anthurium queremalense is adapted to an environment of high humidity and moderate temperatures , reflecting the unique conditions of its natural habitat. In the wild, it grows predominantly epiphytically , clinging to trees in the cloud forests of the Andean slopes, where biodiversity is impressive.

Botanical characteristics

Leaves: Elongated, cordate, with a velvety surface and dense texture; prominent veins, giving a sculptural effect.

Stem: Short, compared to the foliage, capable of emitting aerial roots for anchoring and efficient absorption of moisture.

Inflorescence: Thin, cylindrical spadix, accompanied by an elegant, yellowish-green spathe.

Flowers: Small, compactly arranged on the spadix, pollinated by specialized insects from its native ecosystem.

Fruit: Red or orange berries when ripe, containing viable seeds.

Care instructions

To maintain the health and beauty of this rare species, it is essential to replicate the conditions of its natural habitat as closely as possible:

🌿 Light: Preferably bright indirect light or semi-shade. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, which can damage the leaves.

🌡️ Temperature: It grows optimally between 16-24°C . It does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C , being sensitive to cold.

💦 Humidity: Requires a high level of humidity ( over 50%, ideally around 70% ). Regular spraying of the leaves and the use of a humidifier or a terrarium for controlled climate are recommended.

💧 Watering: Keep the substrate slightly moist but well-drained . Water when the top layer of soil dries out slightly.

🌱 Substrate: Aerated, well-drained mixture, ideal for epiphytes: pine bark, peat, perlite and sphagnum moss , similar to that used for orchids.

🌿 Fertilization: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer (NPK 20-20-20) monthly, during the active growth period (spring-summer).

🪴 Transplantation: Recommended every 2-3 years , in a larger pot and with fresh substrate to ensure healthy root development.

Note: Sensitive foliage - specimens may show defects/scars on the leaves. This is considered normal.

Height with pot included: approx. 30 cm
