Pomul de stafide - Amelanchier spicata - fructe dulci si aromate (cultura biologica)

Amelanchier spicata (also known as Juneberry or Serviceberry) is a highly valuable ornamental and edible shrub for Romanian gardens.

It is a compact shrub with vigorous growth through rhizomes, forming dense clumps 1–2 m tall (rarely up to 2.5 m) and gradually spreading. The leaves are oval, finely serrated, glossy dark green, turning spectacular shades of intense red-orange and rust in autumn.

The flowers appear early in spring (April–May), before or alongside the leaves, white and grouped in upright clusters, very decorative.

The fruits are the plant’s highlight and the reason it is called Juneberry. They are small, round, similar to blueberries or currants, turning deep violet-black when ripe. They have a sweet, juicy, and aromatic taste with pleasant notes of wild apples and almonds. They can be eaten fresh straight from the plant but are also excellent for:

• jams, preserves, and syrups
• cakes, tarts, and desserts
• drying (becoming similar to natural raisins)
• making wines, liqueurs, or teas

The fruits are rich in vitamins (C and E), antioxidants, and fiber, making them both decorative and practically useful – a true “superfruit” for the garden.
