Kiwi - Actinidia deliciosa 'Golden Kiwi' (femela)

Actinidia deliciosa 'Golden Kiwi' is a variety of kiwi, a perennial plant from the Actinidiaceae family, native to China. Unlike the common green kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa), the 'Golden Kiwi' fruits have a golden-yellow color, hence their name.

Fruit quality: The 'Golden Kiwi' fruits have an oval shape and medium size, with a smooth and thin brown skin. The fruit flesh is juicy, with a soft and creamy texture. The taste of 'Golden Kiwi' is sweet, with tropical aroma notes, and is less acidic than that of the green kiwi. This fruit is known for its delicious and refined flavor, which can be described as a blend of pineapple, mango, and strawberries. The fruits are also rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, and dietary fiber.

The weight of the mature fruit varies between 70-150 grams, depending on the climate and conditions, with an average around 100 grams.

Pollination: Actinidia deliciosa 'Golden Kiwi' is a dioecious plant, which means that male and female plants are needed to produce fruit. For good pollination and fruit production, it is recommended to plant one male for every 3-8 females. Pollinators required include: Actinidia deliciosa 'Atlas', Actinidia deliciosa 'Tomuri'.

Frost resistance: down to -20 degrees Celsius, but it is recommended to protect the plant during the first 2-3 years until the stem becomes woody/mature enough.

Cultivation recommendations: It is grown on trellises/arches/fences, like a grapevine. We recommend choosing a wind-sheltered area, preferably near a wall or fence with southern exposure. Kiwi 'Hayward' appreciates warmth and direct sunlight. The first pruning can be done 2 years after planting.

It does not require special soil and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free".
