Acer palmatum 'Beni Maiko' (artar japonez)
Acer palmatum 'Beni Maiko' is a variety of Japanese maple valued for its colorful foliage. The name 'Beni Maiko' means 'red dancing girl' in Japanese, a reference to the vibrant coloring of the leaves.
This shrub or small tree generally reaches a height and width of about 1.5-2.5 meters. The branches are arranged in layers, creating a structure similar to a shelf.
The leaves are small, hand-shaped, with five or seven pointed lobes. The coloring is what truly sets this variety apart. In spring, the leaves are bright red, with an almost glowing appearance. As the season progresses, the leaves turn greenish-red before taking on spectacular bright red hues in autumn.
Acer palmatum 'Beni Maiko' prefers a spot sheltered from the scorching midday sun and well-drained, acidic or neutral soil. It is hardy to low temperatures and can withstand down to -20 degrees Celsius.
