Catasetum tenebrosum fragrant
Catasetum tenebrosum is a species of epiphytic orchid originating from the tropical regions of Central and South America, especially from Ecuador and Peru. This orchid is appreciated for its spectacular flowers, which have a dark color, usually an intense brown or almost black, with green or yellow accents. The flowers are large, waxy and have a unique shape, with a dramatic appearance and strong citrus scent.
The flowers naturally show variations in shape and color.
This species is known for its seasonal flowering cycle, which is triggered by the light and temperature conditions specific to its natural habitat. Like other species of the Catasetum genus, male and female flowers can appear on different plants, having different aspects and being produced depending on the growing conditions.
To grow Catasetum tenebrosum successfully, strong but indirect light and abundant watering during the period of active growth, followed by a period of dry rest during the winter, are necessary. This adaptation allows it to tolerate the climatic variations of its native environment. See the Catasetum orchid care guide here.
