Helleborus niger 'Advent Star', also known as the "Christmas Rose," is a special variety of the species Helleborus niger, valued for its pure white flowers and its ability to bloom during the cold season, right around Christmas.

Description:

• Leaves: Evergreen, dark green, glossy, with slightly serrated edges. These create a perfect backdrop for its elegant flowers. The leaves have a firm texture and are resistant to low temperatures.

• Flowers: The flowers are large, snow-white, with prominent golden stamens in the center.

  As the flowers age, they sometimes take on pale pink or green shades, adding extra charm.

  It blooms from November to February, being one of the earliest winter plants.

• Size: It is a compact plant, reaching a height of about 20-30 cm and a similar width, making it perfect for small spaces and decorative arrangements.

• Origin: This variety is a cultivated form of the native European species, adapted for early blooming and ease of care.

Care:

Light: Prefers partial shade or filtered sunlight but can tolerate shadier spots. In areas with mild summers, it can be placed in locations with direct morning sun.

Soil: Needs well-drained soil, rich in humus, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Clay soils should be improved with compost or organic matter to prevent excessive water retention.

Watering:Water moderately, keeping the soil slightly moist but not soaked. Avoid overwatering, as roots can rot. Let the top layer of soil dry slightly between waterings.

Fertilizing: Apply a layer of compost or a balanced organic fertilizer each spring. Avoid fertilizers high in nitrogen, which can encourage excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers.

Temperature: Highly frost-hardy, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C or even lower. In areas with hot summers, provide shade and cool soil.
