Dendrobium capituliflorum is an epiphytic or lithophytic species of the Dendrobium genus, Calyptrochilus section (Orchidaceae family), native to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Botanical characteristics:
- Flowers: 1.2-1.8 cm in diameter. White, with a green lip on the upper side. Densely clustered in spherical, “bottle-brush” bouquets on the nodes of mature canes (stems), often without leaves. Blooms more frequently in winter-spring.
- Habit: Small plant, with fusiform or cylindrical canes, constricted at the base. Narrow leaves, grey-green on the upper surface and often purple-velvety underneath. Cool-hot growth.
- Particularities: A bottle-brush type species, easy to grow, without a strict dry dormancy. The leafless canes are the ones that flower.
