Wasabi japonica - is a rhizome plant from the Brassicaceae family, which also includes cabbage, horseradish and mustard. It is popularly called "Japanese horseradish".
The Japanese Wasabi root is used as a spice and flavoring - it produces the famous spicy Wasabi sauce, associated both with sushi and other dishes.
The leaves are also edible, having a specific heat and aroma, but less intense than the root.
