Bananier - Musa sikkimensis (Darjeeling Banana)
Musa sikkimensis - a variety of banana plant especially hardy to cold that grows in the Himalaya mountains. It produces smaller fruits, measuring 12-15 cm, which may also contain hard black seeds.
During the cold season, you will need to protect the plant or place it indoors. In the warm season, it grows very well on the terrace or (in southern Romania) even planted in the yard, in direct sunlight.
The banana plant thrives best in full sun - because it is a fast-growing plant, fertilizing and watering during the growing season are essential aspects.
Although the plant’s foliage is lost at -2°C, the rhizome withstands temperatures down to -12°C without being affected.
Height including pot: 40-60 cm, depending on the season
As it develops, this variety loses its lower leaves.
Note: Generally, the leaves of this plant are very fragile and show defects/damage or may be broken - this aspect is considered normal for a banana plant, and the plant has a very rapid growth rate.
