Musa sikkimensis (Darjeeling Banana)
Musa sikkimensis - particularly cold-resistant banana variety that grows in the Himalayas. It produces smaller fruits, 12-15 cm in size, which may also contain hard black seeds.
In the cold season you will have to protect the plant or place it indoors. In the warm season, it grows very well on the terrace or (in southern Romania) even planted in the yard, in direct sunlight.
The banana does best in full sun - due to the fact that it is a fast-growing plant, fertilization and watering during the growing season are essential.
Although the foliage of the plant is lost at -2°C, the rhizome can withstand temperatures of -12°C without being affected.
Height with pots included: 40-60 cm, depending on the season
As it develops, this variety loses its leaves at the base.
Note: In general, the leaves of this plant are very fragile and show defects/damage or may be broken - this aspect is considered normal for a banarier, and the plant has a very fast growth rate.
