The Olive Tree (Olea europaea), also known as the Olive Tree or the evergreen tree, is one of the most appreciated Mediterranean plants, admired for its elegant, green-silver foliage, longevity, and valuable fruit – olives. With a refined appearance and good adaptability, the olive tree is ideal for bright terraces and balconies, as well as for sheltered gardens or very well-lit indoor spaces.

It is a plant with authentic Mediterranean charm, valued not only for its ornamental value but also for its good drought resistance and its ability to regenerate beautifully under suitable conditions.

🌱 Botanical characteristics:

  • Family: Oleaceae
  • Plant type: ornamental and fruit-bearing shrub or tree
  • Common name: olive tree
  • Form: upright, well-branched, with an elegant appearance and slow to moderate growth
  • Leaves: narrow, leathery, gray-green on the upper side and silvery on the underside
  • Fruits: decorative and valuable olives, produced by mature plants under suitable conditions
  • General appearance: Mediterranean, refined, and very decorative, suitable for terraces, enclosed balconies, yards, and sheltered gardens

💧 Growing and care conditions:

  • Light: prefers full sun and needs plenty of light for harmonious development
  • Watering: moderate; water regularly during the growing period but avoid excess; the substrate should be allowed to dry partially between waterings
  • Substrate: well-drained, loose, suitable for Mediterranean plants; does not tolerate water stagnation at the roots
  • Humidity: prefers a rather dry or well-ventilated environment
  • Temperature: prefers warm, dry summers and mild winters; tolerates short periods of low temperatures, but young specimens are more sensitive
  • Fertilization: benefits from fertilization during the growing season, especially in spring and summer
  • Maintenance: in areas with colder winters, young or potted specimens require protection; periodic monitoring for pests and specific diseases is recommended

🌱 Secret Garden recommendation:

For healthy growth, plant the olive tree in a well-drained, aerated substrate suitable for Mediterranean plants, so that water does not stagnate around the roots. In a pot, it is important that the container has very good drainage.

What makes it special:

  • immediately brings an elegant Mediterranean atmosphere to any space
  • is appreciated both for its decorative foliage and its fruit
  • adapts well to pots, terraces, or bright balconies
  • tolerates drought better than many other ornamental plants
  • is a long-lasting plant with a noble and very decorative appearance

📌 Note: Stock specimens may have leaves with defects, small imperfections, slight handling marks, or signs that appeared during transport or acclimation. These aspects are normal and do not affect the plant’s viability.

Frost resistance: up to approximately -8 / -10°C for short periods under good conditions; lower temperatures can cause damage, especially to young or potted specimens. In Romania, winter protection is recommended.

Pot diameter: 18-21 cm

The plant height is measured including the pot.
