Magnolia 'Black Beauty' - flori unice, parfumate
Magnolia 'Black Beauty' is another brooklynensis hybrid, obtained at the Botanical Garden in Brooklyn, USA. It is a cross between Magnolia acuminata and Magnolia liliiflora. It produces flowers ranging from 10 to 20 cm in size, deep red-violet on the outside and nearly white-cream on the inside. The petals are narrow and thick, and the flowers never open wide—they remain half-open like a lily. The scent is subtle and very pleasant.
Blooming begins early, but slightly later than the hybrids of M. soulangeana or M. stellata, which gives it a good chance to avoid late frosts. Black Beauty forms a vertical, densely branched shrub.
Mature size. It is a medium-sized tree, growing up to 3-4 meters tall, making it suitable for small gardens and limited spaces.
General appearance: The foliage is dark green, creating a beautiful background that further highlights the contrast with the dark-colored flowers.
