Lonicera japonica 'Red World' is a spectacular and hardy variety of Japanese honeysuckle , noted for its tubular flowers, in intense shades of purple and violet , with a pleasant fragrance and exotic appearance. It blooms profusely from May to August, and its semi-evergreen foliage remains decorative even in the cold season, in milder climates. In case of extreme temperatures or weather phenomena, the plants lose some of their leaves. Specimens grown in pots may lose their leaves completely.
It is a fast and dense climbing plant, ideal for covering fences, trellises, walls or pergolas, while also contributing to attracting butterflies and bees to the garden.
✔️ Key advantages:
• Fragrant flowers, deep red with purple accents
• Abundant flowering from spring to late summer
• Vigorous climbing plant, with rapid coverage
• Persistent/semi-persistent foliage in areas with mild winters
• Attracts pollinators and contributes to biodiversity
• Good cold resistance: down to -15°C
Cultivation details:
• Plant type: perennial liana, climber
• Mature height: 3–6 m (with support)
• Positioning: sun or partial shade
• Soil: fertile, well-drained, but adaptable to poor soils
• Watering: moderate – more frequent in the first year
• Flowering: May–August
Recommendation: It can also be used as a ground cover plant. Pruning after flowering is recommended to maintain shape and prevent excessive expansion.
Height with pot included: approx. 55-65 cm
Pot diameter: 12-15 cm
Garden or patio plants are grown in unprotected spaces or with minimal protection (shade nets or hail nets). For this reason, naturally, they cannot have perfect foliage - the leaves may show marks, defects or other damage.
In the fall-winter season, plants are sold without leaves.
