Limequat Lyvia (kumquat x lime)
Limonella is the cross between Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and round-fruited Kumquat (Citrus japonica) - resulting in a very juicy and fragrant fruit, with high acidity but quite sweet, and fewer seeds than a kumquat. It has a very high concentration of vitamin C. It is considered an intensively cultivated hybrid because it can bloom and bear fruit all year round.
Lyvia’s fruit is yellowish-green, oval, and slightly larger than other Eustis Limequat varieties. Unlike lime, the fruits can be eaten whole, and they remain an interesting ingredient for cocktails, lemonades, or as a unique garnish/plate design element.
This hybrid was first obtained by the American botanist Walter Tennyson Swingle in 1909.
All the citrus we sell are edible as a species (meaning they produce fruit that can be eaten), with the note that some producers (such as Citrina) obtain additional cultivation certifications for “edible fruits.”
Height including pot: approx. 60-70 cm
