Kiwi - Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red' (Red Kiwi)
Kiwi - Actinidia arguta 'Ken's Red' is a female variety, resistant to negative temperatures of -25 degrees Celsius. It requires a male pollinator such as Actinidia arguta 'Weiki' .
The fruits have a smooth skin, which makes them directly edible, even with the peel still on. Unlike Actinidia arguta 'Issai', the fruit is slightly larger, measuring approx. 4 cm and turns a spectacular red-purple when the plant grows in direct sunlight.
Although smaller than commercial varieties, the fruits make up for it in abundance, taste and appearance - the yield is quite high and the growth is quite compact for a kiwi. The taste is sweet, strongly aromatic, and the fruit has good resistance - it does not become soft.
Kiwi can be harvested starting in September. This variety usually produces its first fruits in the first few years after planting.
Cultivation recommendations: Grow on trellises/arcades/fences, like a vine. We recommend choosing an area sheltered from the wind, preferably near a wall/fence with southern exposure. Kiwi 'Ken's Red' appreciates heat and direct sun. The first cuttings can be made 2 years after planting, at the end of winter or immediately after harvest.
It does not require special soil (but prefers slightly acidic soil) and is resistant to diseases and pests, being considered naturally "pest free".
Height with pot included: approx. 60 cm. Varies depending on the season.
Pot size: diameter 12-15 cm or 2 l
Note: in the cold season, the plants are dormant, shortened and sold without leaves.
