Kanuma 3-5 mm, 2 L - mineral substrate for bonsai and acidophilic plants
Kanuma is a type of granular and porous soil, originally from Japan, used especially in the cultivation of bonsai and other plants that require excellent drainage and an acidic pH. It is extracted near the city of Kanuma in Tochigi Prefecture and is derived from natural deposits of volcanic peat.
Kanuma has several advantages in growing plants:
-
Excellent drainage : Thanks to its porous and granular structure, Kanuma offers excellent drainage, preventing the accumulation of excess water and protecting plant roots against rotting.
-
Acidity : Kanuma has an acidic pH (between 4.5 and 5.5), which makes it ideal for growing plants that prefer an acidic soil, such as azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, bonsai, etc.
-
Water and air retention: Despite its excellent drainage, Kanuma also retains an adequate amount of water and air, ensuring a moist and well-ventilated environment for plant roots. It offers a water retention of approx. 20% bigger than Akadama.
-
Physical stability: Kanuma is a relatively stable material that does not decompose quickly and does not compact over time, which helps to maintain an ideal soil structure in the long term.
-
Sustainability: Kanuma is a natural and biodegradable material, which makes it an ecological option for gardening.
Note: Bulk product - packaging is done in zip bags by our staff. It is not excluded that there may be some volume differences or a margin of error due to porosity, compaction, humidity or density of the material, but these variations are considered normal.
Kanuma can be used pure or mixed with other substrates, such as akadama, pumice or peat, depending on the specific needs of the plants. In general, Kanuma is an excellent option for growing plants that require acidic soil and good drainage, being particularly appreciated in the bonsai community.
The substrate is sold loose, in 2l bags (packaged in florists).
Note for international orders: Adding soil products to international orders will increase your shipping costs due to extra weight charges. For each piece you will need to pay an extra cost of 10 Ron (~2 Eur).
