Eucalipt cu parfum de citrice - Eucalyptus citriodora (Corymbia citriodora)
Eucalyptus citriodora, botanically classified as Corymbia citriodora, is a shrub with unique properties, widely used due to its characteristics. It is a remarkable species, which should not be missing from the collections of enthusiasts. The plant is endemic to Australia, like the vast majority of Eucalyptus varieties.
Fragrance. As the name suggests, the foliage of this plant has a distinct and strong lemon scent when the leaves are crushed or shaken, due to the presence of a compound called citronellal. In the presence of a strong wind, the plant is able to perfume a fairly large area even outdoors. It is also used in the perfume industry.
Natural Repellent : Eucalyptus citriodora is known for its insect repellent properties (strong repellent), especially against mosquitoes. The oil extracted from the leaves is often used as the main ingredient in a wide range of mosquito protection products and more.
Plant characteristics : It grows as a tall tree, which can reach 25-50 meters in ideal conditions. The mature leaves are lanceolate, pale green, long and waxy - but when young they are lighter in color and very pubescent. The size of the plant can be controlled by pruning.
Medicinal use : Eucalyptus citriodora oil has been used in traditional remedies for various conditions, including respiratory ones, due to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Use in aromatherapy : Due to its pleasant scent and relaxing properties, the oil is often used in aromatherapy for relaxation and calming.
Other known names: lemon-scented gum
It does not require special soil and is resistant to diseases and pests, being considered naturally "pest free". It withstands temperatures down to -18 °C, without the need for winter protection. In case of a stronger frost, the leaves fall but the plant recovers in the next growing season.
Height with pot included: approx. 35-50 cm (varies depending on the season). In the cold season the plants are pruned for branching.
Pot diameter: 15 cm
In the warm season, these plants may arrive at their destination with affected foliage (dry tips/leaves) - this aspect is due to transportation and is only an aesthetic defect.
Recommendation : We recommend planting eucalyptus in the garden or in large pots, placed outside during the summer. It is an outdoor plant and does not perform well in small pots for the long term. Do not expose the plant to strong sunlight before planting.
