Astilbe 'Washington' (White)
Astilbe is a genus of perennial plants, known for its delicate and charming flowers that add texture and color to any shaded area in the garden. These plants are valued for their feathery flower clusters, made up of small flowers gathered on tall, stiff stems that rise above the attractive foliage. The flower colors range from white, pink, red to shades of violet and purple, offering a wide range of options for landscape design.
The leaves of Astilbe are also decorative, having varied shapes from lance-shaped to oval, with toothed or serrated edges, often with a shiny or bronzed appearance. The plants prefer shaded or partially shaded places, avoiding direct exposure to strong sunlight which can burn the leaves and shorten the blooming period.
Astilbe is valuable in gardens not only for its spectacular flowers but also for its ability to thrive in moist soils, making it an ideal choice for wet areas or near bodies of water. It is a relatively easy plant to care for, requiring humus-rich soil and regular watering, especially during dry spells.
This plant is perfect for borders, as a background for shorter plants, or in shade gardens, where it can bring light and color. It is also popular in floral arrangements, due to its long stems and flowers that hold up well in a vase.
Its resistance to pests and diseases, along with its appeal to pollinators such as bees and butterflies, make Astilbe a valuable and sustainable plant in any garden.
