Arborele de capsuni - Arbutus unedo 'Compacta'
Arbutus unedo 'Compacta' - a compact cultivar with narrow and long leaves. It grows as a dense bush and reaches a height of about 2m. The fruiting is similar to that of the base species.
Arbutus unedo, commonly called 'Strawberry Tree', is an evergreen shrub originating from the Mediterranean basin and Western Europe.
It is well known for its very showy fruits, which somewhat resemble strawberries in appearance.
The fruit is a red-orange sphere with a rough surface and a diameter of up to 2 cm, sweet when ripe, and contains small brown seeds. The fruit ripening takes up to 12 months – usually it happens at the next flowering, with the fruits remaining on the shrub until that time.
It blooms from October to May, being among the few plants that flower in the cold season.
Arbutus unedo is highly valued also for its great decorative worth – the glossy, ever-green foliage, its white and yellow flowers mixed with fruits from the previous season – all these give the plant a truly unique appearance.
Cold resistance: -15°C. Planting is recommended in areas sheltered from strong wind/blizzard.
Height including pot: approx. 30-40 cm (varies depending on the season)
