




Araucaria heterophylla (Norfolk Island pine)
Araucaria heterophylla, also known as the Norfolk Island pine, is a species of conifer endemic to Norfolk Island, an external territory of Australia located in the Pacific Ocean, between New Zealand and New Caledonia.
It is cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant, due to its attractive, upright leaves. Araucaria heterophyll is a large, slow-growing tree, which can reach a height of up to 50-65 meters. It has a straight, upright trunk and symmetrical branches, which extend almost horizontally or slightly obliquely.
Araucaria heterophylla is a hardy plant that can tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions. However, to thrive, it needs:
- Light: Prefers a bright location, but not in full sun.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity.
- Irrigation: Water regularly, but not excessively.
- Minimum temperature : 5-7 degrees Celsius
- Pruning: Does not require maintenance pruning.
In summer, it can be placed outside, on the terrace or in the garden, but in a shady place, away from the strong rays of the sun.
