Agris rosu fara spini - Ribes uva-crispa 'Captivator'
Ribes uva-crispa 'Captivator' is a variety of gooseberry with a very low number of thorns (sometimes none). This cultivar is known for its large, sweet, and attractive fruits.
The fruit of the Captivator gooseberry plants has an oval or spherical shape, with a medium to large size. The color of the fruits ranges from dark red to almost black, depending on the stage of ripeness. The surface of the fruit is smooth and slightly shiny, making it visually appealing.
The taste of the fruits is sweet, with a slight hint of acidity, making them suitable for fresh consumption or in various culinary preparations, such as jams, jellies, juices, or desserts. The texture of the fruits is fleshy and juicy, and the seeds inside are relatively small and not very bothersome.
The fruits appear on the branches of the plant during the summer months, usually starting in June and lasting until August, depending on the climate and growing conditions.
Ribes uva-crispa 'Captivator' prefers partially shaded, cooler locations. During the warm season, the plant appreciates additional watering. It grows upright in the form of a vigorous bush, reaching up to 120 cm.
This variety is not 100% thornless - it develops much rarer and smaller thorns, especially on old, woody growths (generally at the base). For this reason, old branches are pruned in autumn.
Self-fertile variety - does not require planting another specimen for pollination. Does not require special soil and is resistant to diseases and pests, being naturally considered "pest free". It withstands extreme temperatures down to -35 °C.
