Epidendrum (Dinema) polybulbon Orchid Lindl. 1826

Dinema polybulbon, also known by its former name Epidendrum polybulbon, is a miniature orchid native to Central America and the Caribbean. It quickly forms compact clusters of small pseudobulbs, while the fragrant white flowers appear near the base of new growths.

Light and temperature. Medium, filtered light is suitable; strong direct sunlight can scorch the small leaves. Intermediate to warm temperatures, gentle air circulation, and moderate humidity support steady growth.

Watering and fertilizing. Water when the substrate is nearly dry, without allowing the fine roots to remain completely dry for days at a time. During the active growth period, use diluted orchid fertilizer.

Potting and repotting. A small pot, an airy basket, or a secure mount is suitable for its compact growth. Repot when new roots appear, using a fine, airy mix; you can adapt the substrate for vigorous-growing orchids with finer material.

Practical signs. Wrinkled pseudobulbs indicate thirst or compromised roots; soft bases indicate stagnant water. Do not divide a small plant frequently: a mature cluster produces more impressive blooms.
