Sempervivum mix - Hen and Chicks Plant
Sempervivum, also known as or “stone plant”, is a genus of perennial fleshy plants, valued for their compact appearance and resistance to harsh conditions. It is ideal for rock gardens, rockeries, and pots due to its ability to retain water in its leaves and survive in poor soils.
Care conditions:
✔ Light: Prefers sunny spots. Strong sunlight enhances the leaf colors. It can tolerate partial shade but will grow more slowly.
✔ Soil: Requires well-drained, sandy or stony soil. A mix for fleshy plants or cacti is ideal.
✔ Watering: Water sparingly, only when the soil is completely dry. It tolerates drought well, but overwatering leads to root rot.
✔ Temperature: Withstands extreme temperatures, from -30°C up to high temperatures over 30°C.
✔ Humidity: Prefers a dry environment; high humidity can encourage fungal diseases.
✔ Fertilizer: Does not require frequent feeding but can be boosted with a weak fertilizer for fleshy plants, applied once per season.
Common problems:
🔹 Soft and rotten leaves: Overwatering.
🔹 No flowering: The plant is monocarpic (dies after flowering); new rosettes will continue to grow.
🔹 Elongated and pale leaves: Lack of direct light.
