This group of Paphiopedilum exists only in cultivation, being the result of selective crossbreeding of botanical species and their hybrids. The known parental species for the American Hybrid group are Paphiopedilum insignie, P. gratrixianum, P. villosum, P. spicerianum, P. barbigerum, P. coccineum.
