Peperomia prostrata, also known as String of Turtles, is a decorative succulent plant valued for its small, round leaves with a pattern resembling a turtle shell. It is an easy-to-care-for houseplant, ideal for hanging pots or terrariums.

Main Features

Family: Piperaceae

Origin: Tropical forests of South America, especially Brazil

Appearance: A trailing plant with thin, flexible stems that can reach 30-50 cm in length

Leaves: Small, round, about 1 cm in diameter, with a dark green pattern and lighter veins resembling a turtle shell

Flowers: Small and discreet, white-cream colored, in the form of thin spikes

Care Conditions

Light: Prefers moderate to bright indirect light. Can adapt to partial shade, but growth will be slower. Avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight.

Water: Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. Sensitive to overwatering, which can cause root rot.

Humidity: Tolerates moderate humidity but prefers a slightly moist environment. Occasional misting can be beneficial.

Temperature: Ideal between 18-25°C. Does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C.

Soil: A well-draining mix, such as a succulent substrate or a blend of peat, perlite, and bark.

Fertilizer: Fertilize once a month during the growing season (spring-summer) with a diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.

Attention! The leaves of this plant are fragile and can easily break during transport.
