🌿 Wrapping and Receiving Plants
Each plant is carefully wrapped to arrive to you in the best possible condition, regardless of the season
📦 How We Wrap Plants
☀️ Warm Season
In the warm period, we use a minimalist wrapping method because plants need to breathe, and temperatures inside the box can become high.
- Plants are fixed in the pot and secured in the box
- Protection with kraft paper to prevent leaf damage and wood wool or similar materials for flower protection
- Adequate ventilation for air circulation
❄️ Cold Season
In the cold season, we apply a different procedure, using thermal foils. Although we wrap very well, we recommend adding Heat Packs as an active heat source to maintain an optimal temperature.
Protective layers:
- Multiple layers of paper – absorb moisture resulting from temperature differences
- Insulating foil – maintains a temperature inside the box
- Thick cardboard boxes CO5 or CO3 – maximum resistance and additional insulation, thanks to multilayer boxes
- Filling and sealing materials
🔥 Heat Pack - Extra Protection
Heat Packs can be ordered separately as extra protection and an active heat source for your plants.
- Emit constant heat for up to 110 hours
-
Ideal as an active heat source in the cold season (emit heat)
- Available for online order on the site along with the plants - or can be added later by editing the order.
All packaging materials (paper, thermal foil, thick boxes, adhesive tape) are of superior quality and are currently offered for free - we cover the costs, except for Heat Packs.
🌤️ Monitoring Weather Conditions
🛡️
The Safety of Your Plants Is Our Priority
In the cold season, we constantly monitor weather forecasts, weather developments, and parcel routes, especially for international deliveries, using data and experience from previous years.
⚠️ Important to know: Weather forecasts are only estimates, and actual conditions can vary significantly – weather is often unpredictable. Over time, we have noticed significant variations even between applications that provide weather forecasts.
🤝 Your Collaboration Is Essential
As a passionate client or plant collector, please also carefully check the forecast in your area, especially the temperatures.
📍 If you know that a period with extreme temperatures is coming:
- It is recommended to NOT place the order during that interval
- Wait for a period with milder temperatures for the safety of the plants
📦 If you already have an active order and the weather deteriorates/changes unexpectedly:
- Contact us as soon as possible at comenzi@secretgarden.ro
- We can postpone shipping safely
- We prefer to wait a few days rather than risk the health of your plants
💚 Together we ensure the best transport conditions for your plants!
📬 Receiving Plants in the Cold Season
⚠️ Important: Plants tolerate low temperatures very well for short periods, but thermal shock caused by sudden temperature changes must be avoided. Follow the steps below carefully.
I
Initial Storage (2 hours)
After receiving the package, store it sealed in the coolest room of the house (ideal temperature 15-18°C) for about 2 hours. Keep it away from any heat source (radiators, stove, air conditioning).
II
Partial Unsealing (1 hour)
After 2 hours, unseal the package without unpacking the plants. Leave it in this state for about one more hour. This step allows air to circulate gradually, avoiding thermal shock.
III
Unpacking and Acclimation (24 hours)
Unpack the plants and leave them in a cool room for at least a few hours. Avoid any heat source for at least 24 hours.
The next day, the plants can be moved to normally heated rooms. Water them in the morning to allow the water to evaporate during the day.
💡 Important Recommendations
🌱 Repotting
Avoid repotting plants in the first weeks after arrival. Let them acclimate to the new environment before stressing them with changing the pot.
🌡️ Thermal Shock
The biggest danger for plants after transport in the cold season is thermal shock – a sudden temperature change. That is why it is essential to follow the gradual acclimation steps.
💧 Proper Watering
Water plants in the morning, not in the evening. This allows excess water to evaporate and be metabolized by the plant during the day and reduces the risk of root rot.
