Foliage and growth. The leaves are rhomboid-elliptic, thick, with unusually robust petioles, often thicker than the stem. The lateral veins are visible on the upper surface. In good light, the green foliage becomes more contrasting. This lot is not the selection sold as Splash or Splash Round. It has a vining habit, with long internodes.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers are small and white, sometimes with greenish or pale pink tones, grouped in umbels. Horticultural sources describe them as subtly fragrant; their color and intensity may vary depending on growing conditions. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. The accepted botanical name is Hoya crassipetiolata Aver., V.T.Pham & T.A.Le, published in 2017. The species is native to Vietnam. Hoya hainanensis is a separately accepted species. The labels Da Nang or DaNang Vietnam indicate the origin of the horticultural material, not another botanical name.
