Menta cu aroma de lamaie - Mentha x piperita var. citrata (Zitronenminze, Lemon mint)
Mentha x piperita var. citrata, commonly known as Zitronenminze, Lemon Mint, or lemon balm, is a variety of mint especially valued for its distinct citrus aroma. Unlike classic peppermint, this variety has a strong lemon and orange scent with subtler mint notes, making it much more delicate and pleasant in taste.
The plant has green, ovate-lanceolate leaves that are slightly wrinkled with a fine texture. It grows vigorously and forms dense bushes, reaching 50-70 cm in height. The aroma of the leaves is very pronounced and pleasant even to the touch.
Main features:
- Strong lemon and citrus aroma (much more pronounced than regular mint)
- Sweet, fresh, and balanced taste
- Green leaves with a high essential oil content
- Vigorous and productive growth
- Size: 50-70 cm in height
Easy care:
- Light: full sun or partial shade
- Watering: regular and abundant (mint prefers slightly moist soil)
- Soil: rich, well-drained, and fertile
- Pruning: regular trimming of the tips is recommended to encourage branching and maintain intense aroma
- Important: grows aggressively through runners. It is best grown in pots to control spreading.
Uses: Mentha x piperita var. citrata is highly appreciated both in the kitchen and for therapeutic use. Thanks to its lemon aroma, it is excellent for:
- Refreshing teas and infusions
- Lemonades, mojitos, and summer drinks
- Sweet dishes (desserts, ice cream, smoothies)
- Cooking (fish, salads, sauces, garnishes)
- Traditional use (stomach soothing, invigorating effect)
It is one of the most pleasant mint varieties for those who do not like the strong and “medicinal” taste of classic peppermint.
An aromatic, versatile, and very productive variety, ideal for herb gardens, balcony pots, or terraces.
