Cycas revoluta , popularly known as the sago palm , is one of the oldest cultivated ornamental plants, often nicknamed the "living fossil". Although it resembles a miniature palm, it is part of the cycad group, plants with a history of over 200 million years. It has a spectacular architectural form, with stiff, pinnate, dark green leaves, which start in a rosette from a thick, woody trunk. It is a very decorative plant, suitable both for bright interiors and for gardens and terraces, in large pots.

These aspects do not affect the viability of the plant, which periodically regenerates its crown by the appearance of a new "flush" of leaves.
