Phalaenopsis violacea is an Asian species valued for its intensely fragrant flowers and more delicate appearance compared with common commercial Phalaenopsis orchids. The fragrance is more noticeable in good light, while the plant needs warmth, well-aerated roots, and carefully controlled watering.

Light and temperature. Provide bright, filtered light, with gentle morning sun after acclimatization. Warm, stable temperatures, light ventilation, and protection from cold drafts are important. Insufficient light prolongs the interval between blooms; strong sun causes dry spots on the leaves.

Watering and roots. Water when the roots turn silver and the substrate is almost dry, then allow the excess water to drain completely. Avoid water remaining between the leaves or in the decorative cachepot. Firm roots with green tips after watering are the best indication that the plant is actively growing.

Fertilizing and repotting. During the growing season, apply diluted orchid fertilizer after watering. Repot when new roots appear or when the bark has broken down, using well-aerated orchid substrate, without choosing a much larger pot.

Flowering and practical signs. Fragrance and flowers develop when the plant has good light, firm leaves, and active roots. After the flower spike appears, avoid moving the plant repeatedly or allowing it to dry out completely. Soft or brown roots indicate excess moisture; very dark leaves and slow growth indicate insufficient light.
