Thelocactus hexaedrophorus is a succulent cactus native to Mexico, prized for its unique shape and large, colorful flowers. This species is relatively hardy and is well-suited to cactus collectors due to its distinctive appearance and moderate care requirements.
Flowering occurs in late spring and early summer. The flowers are spectacular, trumpet-shaped, white or pink.
Care:
- Light: Thelocactus hexaedrophorus prefers exposure to direct sunlight or partial shade. Bright light is essential for optimal growth and flowering.
- Soil: Requires well-drained soil, specific mix for cacti.
- Watering: Watering should be moderate during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings. In winter, watering should be significantly reduced or even stopped to prevent rotting.
- Temperature: It tolerates high temperatures, but cannot stand frost. It is recommended to keep it at a minimum temperature of 5°C during winter.
Special features:
- Growth rate: It grows quite slowly, but becomes more impressive as it matures.
- Resistance: It is very drought resistant and requires very little water, making it ideal for cactus collectors who want an easy-to-maintain plant.
