Sedum sieboldii Mediovariegatum (Rozchodnik pstry)
Sedum sieboldii ‘Mediovariegatum’ is a decorative and rare variety of sedum with variegated foliage, native to Japan. It is a small succulent plant with low growth and a trailing or semi-trailing appearance, ideal for window boxes, hanging pots, borders, or rock gardens. It stands out for its round, blue-green leaves with a cream-yellow center, and pink flowers that appear in autumn.
🔹 Botanical characteristics:
• Habit: A perennial, succulent plant with low growth and lateral spreading. The stems are flexible, arched, and lengthen easily, forming a natural cascade.
• Leaves: Round and fleshy in shape, arranged oppositely along the stem. The color is blue-green with a cream-yellow center, giving a mosaic variegated look that is very decorative. In the cold season, the leaves may take on slight pink or purple hues.
• Flowers: Small, star-shaped, light pink to deep pink, grouped in inflorescences at the tips of the stems. They bloom in September–October, providing a pleasant contrast to the foliage.
🔹 Recommended growing conditions:
• Light: Prefers direct sun or bright partial shade. In good light, the variegation is more intense, and flowering is more abundant.
• Watering: Low. Water only when the substrate is completely dry. It is very drought-tolerant.
• Soil: Well-drained, sandy or rocky. Ideal for succulent and cactus substrates.
• Temperature: Resistant to low temperatures, it can overwinter outdoors in areas with mild winters. In severe frost conditions, protection or pot cultivation is recommended.
• Fertilization: Rarely – once in spring, with a weak fertilizer for succulents.
🔹 Other information:
• Toxicity: Not known to be toxic to humans or animals.
• Propagation: By stem or leaf cuttings, very easy to propagate.
• Maintenance: Minimal. Can be lightly pruned after flowering to encourage a compact shape.
Sedum sieboldii ‘Mediovariegatum’ is an elegant and easy-to-care-for succulent, perfect for autumn decor or sunny spaces. With its spectacular variegation and late flowering, it brings texture and color to any garden corner or terrace.
Note: The appearance and coloration of the leaves may vary from one specimen to another and can change depending on the season, sun exposure, temperature, and growing conditions. Some plants may become greener than shown in the presentation images, and intense coloration often intensifies during certain times of the year.
