Tillandsia abdita is a species of air plant (epiphyte) renowned for its fine foliage and spectacular color transformation. The 'Red' variety is specially selected for its ability to turn an intense, almost neon, burgundy red, especially during the flowering period. It is a plant with a soft, velvety texture that brings a strong contrast to any air plant arrangement.

Native to the tropical regions of Central America, this epiphytic plant does not require soil, absorbing water and nutrients directly from the air through its fine leaves.

🌿 Botanical characteristics:

  • Genus: Tillandsia

  • Family: Bromeliaceae

  • Origin: Central America and Mexico

  • Foliage: rosette-shaped, with thin, flexible, green-silver leaves that turn intense red in good light

  • Flowers: small, tubular, pink or violet, appearing in the center of the rosette

☀️ Growing conditions:

  • Light: strong indirect or filtered light; avoid direct exposure to intense sunlight

  • Watering: mist 2–3 times per week; soak the plant completely in water for 15–20 minutes once a week, then allow it to dry completely

  • Optimal temperature: 18–28°C

  • Humidity: ideal above 50% – perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, or terrariums

💚 Advantages and uses:

  • Soilless plant – easy to place on decorative supports, shells, driftwood, or in glass globes

  • Spectacular color in natural light

  • Easy to care for, ideal for modern interiors

  • Helps purify the air and create a tropical atmosphere

Important note about color: This plant is a "chameleon." The intense red color is, biologically, a reaction to strong light and the flowering cycle (a phenomenon called "blushing").

  • If the plant is moved to shade or after it finishes flowering, the leaves may gradually return to shades of green or reddish-brown.

  • Offsets that appear later will initially be green.

  • This cycle is perfectly normal and natural.

Note: Since the leaves are very soft and velvety, they may show small mechanical bends caused during transport, which do not affect the plant’s health.
