Bardendrum spectabilis-criniferum (Barkeria spectabilis x Epidendrum criniferum)

Bardendrum spectabilis-criniferum is a hybrid between Barkeria spectabilis and Epidendrum criniferum. It inherits Barkeria’s elegance and seasonal growth rhythm, together with the vigor of an Epidendrum, resulting in a plant with slender stems and attractive flowers.

Light and temperature. Provide bright, filtered light and, in summer, a few hours of gentle sunlight after acclimatization. Good ventilation and a bright location support the development of mature stems; avoid prolonged cold and frost.

Watering. During active growth, water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings. When growth slows and the stems have matured, gradually reduce the frequency without allowing the plant to dry out completely.

Fertilizing and repotting. Apply diluted orchid fertilizer during the active season. Repot when new roots appear, using an airy orchid substrate; do not disturb a plant that is preparing flower spikes.

Practical signs. Very thin stems indicate insufficient light. Soft bases and yellowing leaves generally indicate overwatering; mature, dry stems should only be removed after they have turned completely brown.
