Alocasia zebrina

Alocasia zebrina is a spectacular tropical plant, known and loved for its unique stems with zebra-like stripe patterns, and large arrow-shaped leaves. It is an extremely decorative indoor plant, perfect for adding an exotic, modern, and graphic accent to any space.

🔹 Botanical characteristics:

• Habit: A perennial plant with elegant vertical growth, long stems, and raised leaves. It can reach 60–100 cm in height under ideal conditions.

• Leaves: Large, glossy, arrow-shaped, dark green in color with prominent veins. The surface is smooth and thin, with a pronounced tropical look.

• Stems: The distinctive element of the plant – thin, elongated, with irregular dark brown stripes on a yellow background, very similar to a zebra pattern. This contrast makes the stems look drawn and extremely decorative.

🔹 Recommended growing conditions:

• Light: Prefers bright indirect light, but can adapt to partial shade. Does not tolerate direct sun exposure, which can burn the thin leaves.

• Watering: Moderate. The soil should be kept slightly moist but not soaked. Good drainage is important as it is sensitive to excess water.

• Soil: Aerated and well-drained – ideally a tropical mix with peat, perlite, and shredded bark.

• Humidity: Appreciates high atmospheric humidity, but can adapt to drier spaces if occasionally misted or kept near a humidifier.

• Temperature: Grows well in warm and stable environments. Should be protected from cold drafts and low temperatures.

• Fertilization: During the growing season (spring–summer), apply a liquid fertilizer for green plants every 2–3 weeks.

• Maintenance: Medium – requires attention to watering and humidity but is resilient if conditions are suitable.

Alocasia zebrina is appreciated by collectors and interior designers for its graphic appearance, distinctive stems, and exotic air. It is perfect for modern decor, jungle-style, or as a tropical accent in a minimalist space.
