In its natural location, Vanda sanderiana grows on tree trunks at altitudes of up to 500 meters above sea level, often close to the water, often hanging above the water and frequently completely exposed to the sun. It is a species of major importance in Vandacea breeding programs due to its impressive two-tone appearance and fragrant flowers. It is found in the Philippines, on the island of Mindanao, and is a large, monopodial plant with fast growth in hot climate conditions.

It blooms more frequently in autumn on 1 or 2 axillary, solid, ascending flower stems, up to 30 cm long, with 7 to 10 fragrant flowers, with a long lifespan.
