Hoya 'Noelle' - fragrant flowers

Hoya 'Noelle' is an accepted cultivar, not a species. It was selected by Michael Miyashiro in Hawaii from open pollination and named by Carol Noel in 2004. The published parentage is a suspected cross between Hoya vitellinoides and Hoya vitellina; the order is unknown. The foliage is glossy and slightly concave, with silver splash and prominent veins. The flowers are yellow, with a pale pink corona and a citrus fragrance. Blooming depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions.

Foliage and splash. The leaves are broad, glossy, and slightly curved, with prominent pinnate venation. Silver speckles may appear on the green leaf surface. In bright light, the foliage may turn yellow-orange, light red, or burgundy along the margins. This coloration is a response to growing conditions, not a change in identity, and has led to commercial confusion with Hoya fuscomarginata, which is not a synonym for this cultivar.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers have a pale yellow, reflexed corolla and a pearly pink corona, with white angles toward the center. They appear in umbels. The fragrance is citrusy, milder than that of Hoya vitellinoides and different from the bleach-like note of some Hoya vitellina clones. A bloom lasts for a short time and depends on microclimate stability after the buds form. Blooming depends on the plant's maturity and growing conditions. It has also circulated as Hoya 'VitVit'. It is not a species and does not replace Hoya vitellina or Hoya vitellinoides.

Specimens may have leaves with defects.
