Hoya chlorantha - fragrant flowers, mature specimens

Hoya chlorantha is a vine from Samoa, cultivated for its green flowers and sharp, dark-green foliage with a prominent central vein. In horticulture, it is also circulated as Hoya chlorantha var. chlorantha or IML 1352. The flowers have green tones and are fragrant. tutuilensis). Foliage and growth. The leaves are opposite, dark green, pointed, and have a prominent central vein. Under good growing conditions, they reach approximately 10 cm in length and 3 cm in width in cultivation. The foliage is not variegated. The stem is a vine that can be trained onto a support or left to trail. Shoot length varies from one specimen to another.

Flowers and fragrance. The flowers appear in umbels, usually with only a few flowers per umbel, and have green tones. The name chlorantha means “green-flowered.” The fragrance is subtle, horticulturally described as a light candy-like scent. The flowers last for several days. Flowering depends on the plant’s maturity and growing conditions.

Identity. Hoya chlorantha Rech. was published in 1908. It is not a synonym of Hoya filiformis. Material with reddish or mauve flowers, sold as var. tutuilensis or IML 0545, is a different SKU. IML 1352 remains the collection label for this batch. The commercial title retains Hoya chlorantha.
