Dioscorea bulbifera - a fascinating species, native to South Africa.
A plant with a caudex that has two means of storing nutrients - the caudex itself, as well as the "aerial tubers" that develop at the base of the leaves. Although it shows rapid vegetative growth, the aerial tubers develop relatively slowly over time. It does not have special care requirements, being considered a species with a high capacity for adaptation.
Dioscorea bulbifera is regarded as a plant of interest from a culinary and medicinal point of view, being used for a variety of dishes and medicines.
