Clivia Miniata 'Orange' - The indoor lily that brightens the shade
Clivia miniata, commonly known as the House Lily or Red Lily, is one of the most noble and hardy indoor plants. It is famous for its ability to bloom spectacularly in shaded places where other plants would not survive. With its dark green, glossy foliage arranged in a fan shape and generous clusters of trumpet-shaped orange flowers, Clivia brings a touch of the exotic and color to any setting.
🌿 Botanical features:
-
Genus: Clivia
-
Family: Amaryllidaceae
-
Origin: South Africa (subtropical forests)
-
Foliage: Long, fleshy leaves of a shiny dark green, growing overlapped in a fan shape
-
Flowers: Spectacular flower cluster made up of 10-20 orange flowers with yellow centers, supported by a thick stem; the flowers last a long time
-
Roots: Has fleshy and thick roots capable of storing water, which makes it drought-resistant
☀️ Growing conditions:
-
Light: It is the queen of shade! Prefers indirect light or partial shade. Keep it strictly away from direct midday sun, which immediately burns its leaves. It is ideal for north-facing windows.
-
Watering: Moderate. Let the soil dry almost completely between waterings. Its roots are sensitive to excess water and can rot easily if water stands.
-
Temperature: Tolerates well the usual indoor temperatures.
-
The secret to flowering: To bloom year after year, Clivia needs a resting period in winter (about 6-8 weeks) in a cooler place (10-15°C) with very reduced watering.
💚 Benefits and uses:
-
Longevity: It is a "long-distance" plant that can live for decades, becoming richer and more spectacular over time
-
Ideal for offices: Because it tolerates neglect and lower light, it is perfect for office spaces
-
Air purifier: Helps clean the air in the room
Toxicity: Clivia contains alkaloids and is toxic if ingested. Keep it away from curious pets (cats/dogs) and small children.
Tip: Clivia likes to be "crowded." Do not move it to a pot that is too large, as it blooms better when its roots fill all the available space. Also, do not move the pot once the flower stem begins to form, as the buds may fall off.
Height including pot: approx. 30-40 cm
Note: shows color variations depending on growing conditions.
