Cattleya maxima var. coerulea - a botanical species found in the regions of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and on the northern coast of Peru, finds its home at altitudes ranging from 10 to 1500 meters. Its preference for coastal forests, which experience dry seasons, highlights its remarkable adaptability. Of medium size and tolerant of climates from cool to warm, the plant grows as an epiphyte, occasionally as a lithophyte. It is distinguished by cylindrical, slightly flattened and grooved pseudobulbs, accompanied by overlapping sheaths without leaves. A unique feature is the single, apical leaf, oblong or elliptic-oblong in shape, clasping, with blunt tips and delicately forked at the end, having a thick, leathery texture.

The flowering period extends from autumn to winter, when the plant develops a spectacular, terminal inflorescence that can reach lengths of up to 30-50 cm, either upright or curved, with a variable number of flowers, from a few to several, grouped in racemes. The inflorescence emerges from a mature pseudobulb, preceded by a long basal sheath. The flowers, of captivating beauty, are not only long-lasting but also fragrant, evoking the sweet scents of heliotrope or sweet pea, and have a relatively dense texture. They are cleverly arranged at the height of the leaf or just above it, creating an impressive visual display.
